Linville Falls & Linville Gorge
One of the most photographed waterfalls in the Blue Ridge, with multiple overlook trails for every fitness level. The surrounding gorge offers more challenging hikes for serious hikers.
Blue Ridge Parkway
“America's Favorite Drive” is right at our doorstep. Cruise the ridgeline, stop at overlooks, hike short trails. Especially gorgeous in fall.
Black Mountain
A walkable downtown packed with breweries, coffee shops, music venues, and outdoor outfitters. Family-friendly with a creative, mountain-arts vibe.
Asheville
The cultural heart of the Western NC mountains. Biltmore Estate, the River Arts District, world-class restaurants, and one of the country's best craft beer scenes.
Morganton
Historic downtown, good restaurants, and access to South Mountains State Park's High Shoals Falls — one of the area's most rewarding hikes.
Mount Mitchell State Park
At 6,684 feet, Mount Mitchell is the highest point east of the Mississippi River. Drive nearly to the summit, walk the short trail, and feel the temperature drop 15-20 degrees on the way up.
Linville Caverns
NC's only show cave. A guided 30-minute tour through underground rock formations — a perfect rainy-day activity that kids love.
A Few Tips From Us
- •The Blue Ridge Parkway is best in early morning — fewer crowds, better light.
- •For Catawba Falls or Linville Falls, mid-week beats weekends. You'll have the trail to yourself.
- •Asheville is worth a full day, not a quick stop. Plan accordingly.
- •Fall color peaks mid-to-late October at this elevation. Book early.
